I will turn 58 in a few months. Over the last 40 working years I have had a pretty good run. Out of high school, I joined the Air Force and spent 13 years on active duty, I made great friends, great experiences and saw many things most never will. I got to to a decision point and decided to exit active duty and finish my AF career in the reserves. Great decision. That was in 1998 when I joined a company I have spent the last 28 years with, and it has been a good ride. I had a great career and had great success there. That came to an end 3 days ago. I am now starting the 3 chapter in my life
My wife and I have been planning retirement for few years now and the plan was to go in Jan of 2026, things have now just been moved up 8 months. The last few days have been a roller coaster of emotions, like any major life event there is a process. Initially day one I was a bit relieved, as I thought, I was doing this anyway, day two, worked through some finances and other topics, now day 3, I am good.
Anyway, chapter 3 is here and I am exploring options,
- Retire
- Find meaningful work, helping people
- Find a similar job in the industry I left
I am leaning toward a combination, going part time and finding work I find fullfilling, This blog may be part of that, oh and continuing to travel!
